So I bought Awakenings Retail for the same region as I have my Origins copy (Region 3). It told me to install a patch, which I did, and then proceeded to play.

I noticed:

1. Awakening has SERIOUS framerate issues. I am talking about full slow motion events and partial freezing.
2. Awakening has control input issues: You select a target, tell your character to attack, nothing happens.
3. I played Origins after the patch and the serious framerate problem is there too! (Wasn't there before)
4. My loading/saving time is becoming longer and longer, to the point the game actually stops for a good 30 seconds.

I would really appreciate if Bioware could acknowledge receipt of the notification of this issue and look into it promptly. Framerate is not a common PS3 issue, and the fact that my Origins copy was working fine until I installed that patch must have something to do with it. The lag-like effect is almost game breaking!

---

On a second note: It has been months since I have managed to upload any trophies and such to the Bioware site, even though I seem to be connected to the DA servers. Please fix this!

Adding:

*Codex entries look blank in many places.

*Sound dissapears

*Game freezes and unfreezes whenever combat starts. (It's not a pause, it actually freezes)

frame rate has been a big problem on origins long before awakening and the patch. after playing origins after the patch, it seems that the frame rate issue got worse.

i'm surprised you didn't notice it before as you can see it in the opening cutscene of the game (a slight stutter every 3-4 seconds).

My Origins copy had no framerate issues at all. I was actually surprised since everyone complained, but since I installed the "patch" that came with Awakenings it is jus terrible! Screen Freezes all the freaking time and right in the middle of battle... :(

Exactly the same thing is happening to me. None of the issues were present when I played DAO before the patch but now I'm experiencing everything as described by Fexelea.

Yep, same problems here. I'm in Sweden if it helps. Origins: No Problem (played probably a couple of months ago). Downloaded Awakening and did the patch thing. Now both Origins and Awakening is unplayable. The GUI is a goddamned slideshow!! I mean, we're not talking a little drop in framerate, the game crawls as soon as L2 is pressed or if I press select to go into the menues. (Can't say anything about the framerate in general since I lasted for about 1 minute before shutting the crap down realising that it was both in O and Awake.).

I lve in the US, and so far since I replayed origins I've noticed alot that has been fixed like dissapearing characters, some framerate issues have been fixed, but as for the movie seen at the begining still stutters. I play with component cable r,g,b and stereo sound, now when I hook it up to my HD tv and HD true surround sound I notice alot of music and dialog dissapearing in out at times during play. And some lag I dot knownif it is the tv out on the system but on my standard tv I don't have these problems

You can go into Game Data and delete the entry for DA, then insert the DA:O disc and reinstall. This will get you to pre-patch status (v 1.0). Just make sure you don't auto-connect to PSN or it will try to download and install the new patch every time you start the game.

Well I use thempatch from the awakening disc, but as all people, I guess we have to wait for a patch again, besides it's kinda like being a game tester for bioware and I enjoy finding glitchs for bioware. Because we the player are the reason this ga e is out there, so if we keep finding them and posting them bioware is aware of what we r saying and is working on the solution. Another is the ps3 is hardware and software from what I know is alot harder to program on then the pc and xbox, so people please be paitent for a new patch release and keep finding bugs. It helps bioware track them down faster.

Ps I just ate your Donna roll!!!

As several other people have pointed out, can we have an official word on the status of this issue? Or are we speaking to deaf ears?

Just a "We hear you guys and are looking into it." would suffice.

Cheers,

Yeah, there were some framerate blips in origins, but it was mostly negligible for me, but now that I'm playing Awakening it seems like whenever a fight starts the screen flat-out freezes for a few seconds before moving on.

I do not recommend doing this: it will also remove any other DLC, and it can corrupt your saves in Origins if you have DLC gear or saved during those quests.

Ive also noticed more lag since the exp pack. I never had much lag / framerate issues in origins (using the older Fat 80gig HD) but recently it has become more of an issue entering combat.

I never had major issues before getting Awakenings, but now battles in Origins run much less smoothly and the framerate issues are frustrating to say the least.

Bioware, please fix this!

yeah, not a word yet? I mean, I'm pretty sure the problem ain't gonna fix itself or go away by being ignored? If this is a problem affecting only a few people, wouldn't it help to try and get as much info from us as possible to nail it down? (I'm guessing the internet would be ablaze if this was an issue for all PS3 owners??)

If this problem will not be fixed, is it possible to get a refund?

You can probably get a refund from your retailer.

I encourage everyone to pester EA with this issue. The framerate is ridiculous. Time to start making youtube videos and forwarding to all customer service emails we have.

Funny, for me with Origins (game purchased in Nov.2009/ played on 80g Phat/ NTSC/ 20 gigs avail./ CRT HDTV 720p) the stutter/freeze/lag was terribly evident from the day of purchase. Awakenings & the patch actually improved the framerate performance of the original and Awakenings, compared to what I had experienced so far.

Things that may (or may not) improve your experience:
- Play with Internet/ PSN connection Disabled.
- Limit Saves/ Limit Characters. I find if I try to have more than 4 Character Builds/ Save Partitions, things get more dicey. I keep 2-3 saves only for each character.
- I was using a HDMI to DVI cable and have had better luck just running with the Sony component R/G/B colored jacks.
- Please, if you've got issues with framerate at least take the time to post it in the "BioWare Please do something about the Ps3 Framerate" thread. Throw out some details about your set-up and maybe (here's to fighting windmills) they might do something other than just say "we're looking into it".

@vonFurious

I had no problems with Origins, I played it in a Phat NTSC as well. I use and HDMI connection but I don't see how that would affect the framerate.

The number of saves/characters has not changed. The change was the "patch". There is an obvious before and after to it.

I'll post in the other thread but this is not an origins issue. It is the awakenings patch for sure.

I feel guilty for saying it, but I am replaying Origins currently and am getting a significant improvement in my framerates. I am not sure why my original Origins play-throughs had such terrible framerate, but it has improved, for me, after the installation of Awakenings. (I play the N. American PSN Awakenings download version with Origins on disc) The game still runs sub-par when compared to other PS3 titles, and it clearly needs to be graphically "smoothed".

It certainly seems like a long shot, but after the latest Sony system update, things seem pretty fine, could be better, but not the stutter/ lag fest I have encountered from 11/09- 03/10. Not sure if that system update really would make the difference on this particular game, but I have not had any deterioration in performance since the Awakenings patch release. Its still can be pretty laggy, but I haven't had any crashes or total freezes. I hope as you, this will be rectified.
