So, really: Why isn't Dog in Awakenings?

Of all the characters from Origins who could have made it into Awakenings, I'd think that Dog would be the most likely one. He's probably your most devoted follower and comrade, he didn't die at the end, and he didn't run off to Antiva or Orlais.
So why wasn't he included in Awakenings? Was it because players had the option of killing him or not accepting him into the group? Was Bioware just bored with the character? Or was there simply nothing more that could be done with him?
Note: I'm not questioning the decision to bring Oghren in (great fellow, even if he is a walking stereotype), but I am curious over why Bioware decided to exclude Dog from the Awakenings group.

I don't know either. That was particularly immersion breaking for me. People all have motives and personalities and other lives separate from yours but your mabari is bonded to you for life. And NOTHING was said about him. I kept wondering where my faithful Hohaku was

Don't blame the Qunari, dammit! They're not responsible for everything!!!
But really, how do you steal a huge DeathDog? Mabari are supposed to be super-loyal!
(Yes, I always resented having Eamon cast aspersions on my faithful buddy when I tried to have him wipe the floor with Loghain).

ROFL that scene is PURE WIN!!!  Eamon has this "i've been putting up with this **** forever" tone to his words too.

Bah. That old fart insulted the loyalty of my most devoted companion. If anything in the game turned me against Eamon, that was it.
I actually left him to die when we were fighting the Archdemon. All through that battle my mage was throwing out healing spells to friendly NPCs (Kardol, Swiftrunner, e.t.c)... excapt Eamon. I was actually annoyed to see that he was alive and well for the post-battle celebration.
Rotten bastard.Posted Image

lol Yea. I hada the same thoughts when I wanted my dog to fight him. And puppy just has that happy bark when you pick him to like "yea let me at him". Damn Eamon...It is a funny scene though.

Eamon etc. have never appeared at the final battle in all the times I've completed Dragon Age, is it a PC only thing?

I play on a PC Eamon AND Irving at there in the final fight (just kind of background guys chipping away at the AD).  And if you get the Dwarf Army out (I LOVE those little guys) and have convinced the Legion of the Dead to join you also see Karnitol (is that his name? the dwarf guy who leads the Legion) there too.

Yeah, I thought the lack of dog was really immersion breaking too. I understand them not wanting to use a character slot up for the dog, but it could have easily been put there as an NPC in the keep (maybe pregnant with puppies?) or off with one of your other companions.

Ya you know, I am rather disapointed that there wasnt even an explanation about where my dog is. The only thing that even confirmed that my dog existed was oghren's banter at the keep about him, and then Oghren passed out.......

It was a bit off, I have to admit. I mean, as an NPC added for imported characters, who just kinda sat around, would have been nice. I mean, they could have just let you pet him and imported all the animations from Origins. He didn't really have to *do* anything. Just be there. But you don't even get an reference to where he is. I probably left him in the capital to protect Alistair from Anora.

Dog, is dead, that is my theory. Remember he ate(slew) alot of Darkspawn during the Blight, and even if they do not die from the taint, they will go mad from it.

Dog probably had to be put down in the most humane way possible, during the months between the slaying of the AD, and the beginning of Awakenings.

A fair point, although I do recall there being a form of the Joining catered toward warhounds. One of the characters from The Calling novel, name of Kell, had a hound that had survived the Joining and became a Grey Warden without opposable thumbs.
Although then you could argue that our Dog died on his Joining, but at least some mention could have been made of him. Poor guy vanishing into thin air like that.Posted Image

Maybe he already reached the limit of the capabilities of the mabari as fighters, although that still doesn't explain why he couldn't have stuck around in a Ser Pounce-a-lot -esque role.

I couldn't have asked for more. Well, maybe I could have, but that's a different point.

Dog isn't dead. There was a thread concerning this exact topic a month or so before Awakening was released, and one of the devs came in and confirmed that Dog wasn't dead, he just wouldn't be with you in Awakening. They gave no explaination as to WHY thought. =\\

I'm convinced for my HNF anyway, that Dog is living in the lap of luxury back at the Terynir of Highever.

Seriously, Dog goes back a hero. I'm sure all the female mabari in the kennels are just loving him.(And yes, there are kennels in the castle. They're mentioned in a codex in Origins, although they don't appear in game.)

Yes I was sad no Dog. Incredibly he was one of my favorite characters, right below Morrigan and Alistair. Hopefully that faithful mutt makes a return for DA 2.

Aw, remember that sick mabari that you get a quest-related note from? When I first saw her, I was like OMG OMG THAT'S MY DOG THERE! And then - no. it was not. :( It is the only thing I cannot understand or forgive in Awakening :-(
