So, really: Why isn't Dog in Awakenings?

So why wasn't he included in Awakenings? Was it because players had the option of killing him or not accepting him into the group? Was Bioware just bored with the character? Or was there simply nothing more that could be done with him?
Note: I'm not questioning the decision to bring Oghren in (great fellow, even if he is a walking stereotype), but I am curious over why Bioware decided to exclude Dog from the Awakenings group.

Don't blame the Qunari, dammit! They're not responsible for everything!!!
But really, how do you steal a huge DeathDog? Mabari are supposed to be super-loyal!
(Yes, I always resented having Eamon cast aspersions on my faithful buddy when I tried to have him wipe the floor with Loghain).

ROFL that scene is PURE WIN!!! Eamon has this "i've been putting up with this **** forever" tone to his words too.

Bah. That old fart insulted the loyalty of my most devoted companion. If anything in the game turned me against Eamon, that was it.
I actually left him to die when we were fighting the Archdemon. All through that battle my mage was throwing out healing spells to friendly NPCs (Kardol, Swiftrunner, e.t.c)... excapt Eamon. I was actually annoyed to see that he was alive and well for the post-battle celebration.
Rotten bastard.

Eamon etc. have never appeared at the final battle in all the times I've completed Dragon Age, is it a PC only thing?
I play on a PC Eamon AND Irving at there in the final fight (just kind of background guys chipping away at the AD). And if you get the Dwarf Army out (I LOVE those little guys) and have convinced the Legion of the Dead to join you also see Karnitol (is that his name? the dwarf guy who leads the Legion) there too.

Dog probably had to be put down in the most humane way possible, during the months between the slaying of the AD, and the beginning of Awakenings.

Dog, is dead, that is my theory. Remember he ate(slew) alot of Darkspawn during the Blight, and even if they do not die from the taint, they will go mad from it.

A fair point, although I do recall there being a form of the Joining catered toward warhounds. One of the characters from The Calling novel, name of Kell, had a hound that had survived the Joining and became a Grey Warden without opposable thumbs.
Although then you could argue that our Dog died on his Joining, but at least some mention could have been made of him. Poor guy vanishing into thin air like that.

Maybe he already reached the limit of the capabilities of the mabari as fighters, although that still doesn't explain why he couldn't have stuck around in a Ser Pounce-a-lot -esque role.
I couldn't have asked for more. Well, maybe I could have, but that's a different point.

Seriously, Dog goes back a hero. I'm sure all the female mabari in the kennels are just loving him.(And yes, there are kennels in the castle. They're mentioned in a codex in Origins, although they don't appear in game.)
