My party is pretty much set (Me, Justice, Howe, Valenna). My next quest is to visit Kal'Hirol. Do I need to have Sigrun in my party? Or a better question is, will it be more rewarding to have her in there in terms of gameplay in the way it was to have Oghren in Orzammar Deep Roads since he had a lot of interesting plot specific dialog at various spots? If Sigrun adds a lot, I may bring her along even though she is a duplicate in skills with my main character. And will Oghren add anything also?
Thanks
Kal'Hirol - do I need to bring Sigrun along?

Nope. I've done it without her.

Bring her along at your discretion, but DON'T toss Nathaniel for it. Sigrun's a rogue, but not the lockpicking kind. I was annoyed to have to bypass all the locked chests in Kal'Hirol because she couldn't tease them.

My main character is a DW rogue with lockpicking so I won't miss out on locked chests. But SIgrun's DW skills is basically the same as me so it isn't optimal to have her along unless she gives a lot of good dialog

Or you can just pick up an extra respec tome and bring it with you to respec Sigrun to open locks.

This. There's some significant flavor that Sigrun brings to Kal'Hirol. If you miss the storytelling angle, make sure to respec her and take her with you.

Sigrun isn't required, but it does make more sense from a story perspective to take her into Kal'Hirol. She's also one of the more interesting characters in Awakening IMHO, so you should at least use her for a some period of time. I took her with Oghren and Anders (plus my 2H warrior) and other then the lack of lockpicking mentioned above, it was fine.

I just finished Kal'Hirol. I decided to bring Sigrun and Oghren since we are heading into dwarf territory and I thought it made a lot of sense from a roleplaying/storyline standpoint. Sigrun had some specific dialog so I'm glad I brought her. And there was one in there for Oghren (the anvil). Overall I'm glad I brought them. Also I found Sigrun to be quite effective in melee.
Fortunately my rogue was able to pick all the locks even though only at level 3 lockpick.

Sigrun gets you in the back door. Take Sigrun to save yourself an amazingly painful trip.

Question: If you don't take Sigrun with you in to Kal'Hirol, does she show up later as a required party member? Like at the broodmothers? If not, how do you ask her to be a grey warden?

No, she is not required, just like none of the party members are. There will be a new quest to have her do the Joining.

In my game I didn't even have to ask her if she wants to be a GW. As soon as I got her in my party, without even completing Kal'Hirol, the option 'Another wishes to undertake the Joining' appears with the senechal.

If you don't take Sigrun to Kal'Hirol, she will indeed pop up when you've killed the broodmothers. As pointed out above, you can do her joining without completing KH.Gilsa wrote...

There is nothing worth getting in any locked chest in there. Its kind of a jerk move not to take her, IMO, since she kind of wants revenge for the loss of the entire Legion. Anyway I just make sure to have a manual of focus in my pack before I head out to Kal'Hirol. She's actually a really good melee rogue too, her Legionnaire Scout specialization has some really nice talents. She only needs to have her cunning bumped up to 22 but leave her as a Strength/Dex rogue and shes really good.
Plus having Oghren and her together in Kal'Hirol has great party banter.

Came here wondering the same thing.. I'll probably swap out Nathaniel for her.
Awakening is pretty weak when it comes to character specific dialogue pretty much.. anywhere.. other than Velanna in the Silverite Mines, Sigrun in Kal'Hirol and Justice in the Blackmarsh, there are precious few places where companions randomly chime in. Only one I can think of at the top of my head if Nathaniel and Anders commenting on helping Justice in the Blackmarsh Undying.
