Hehe.
I was well aware of the consequences when I made the statement.
Doesn't make it any less true, however.

Stop conflating canon and default. Neither Shepard is canon. Mass Effect has no canon.

BioWare made Shepard male.  I play both genders.  I don't really know why you care that *your* Shepard isn't canon.  Of *course* your Shepard isn't canon.  Neither is any of the 9 I have currently.

Where did they make Shepard male? Not in the comics. Not in the books. The ads? The only reason for Sheploo is the likeness rights contract. Legally, Bioware cannot advertise a Shepard who is not Sheploo. The fact that the books and comics dance around any gender or alignment indicates that other than the ads, there is no canon Shepard gender.

You're wlecome to your opinion.  I still stand by my "I don't know why you care."

Plus, seeing as I have the original Mass Effect movie-esque poster on my wall, that isn't Sheploo from in-game.  It's got vaguely similar features, but just like the wallpapers and stuff put out before ME1 released, Sheploo's image isn't the same, this sort of debunks your theory.

Well, Liara, sort of counts, and I've not seen a femshep/Kelly romance, having not played a femshep, is that possible?

Liara is neither male nor female.

sure she looks female..but as we know..Asari don't have "sexes"

so really..she doesn't count for either...ALMOST as a lesbian..but only because she looks female...but still not quite.

I'm all for them adding same sex romances with NEW character(s)..not existing.

not everyone is bi-sexual..which is what you all are asking..for EVERYONE (or your favorite at least) to swing both ways.

it's not like that in the real world is it? so why should it be like that in a game?  I'm glad they established each characters sexual preferences...at this point though turning Shepard gay/bi is a bad idea..would be forced in and feel cheesy.

It's not the Shepard issue, I just can't stand errors in logic. It's kind of an obsessive tic, actually.

Female is female regardless of it being monogendered.  If they have the facilities for female reproductive system THE ARE FEMALE.

No thank you. I'd at least like to have one crew member who doesn't want to get into the Commander's pants.
Not, mind you, that I have anything against same-gender relationships, but I'm already paranoid of talking to people lest I come across as hitting on them.
Any more LIs on the Normandy, and I'd just spend the entire game hiding in my quarters.
Possibly underneath the bed, for that matter.
With a baseball bat.

They've never flat out said that Shepard is 'straight' using those words, though... and Kelly gives me pause on that even without attempting to analyze Casey Hudson's malaproping the word 'asexual' when he meant monogendered.  (On Liara, naturally.)  I think that if sexuality is canon, femShep is canon-bisexual.  (OR a major tease with Kelly.)

I personally think that Kaidan and Ash were considered for possible same-gender LI's for at least a large part of the development, the evidence being the voice tracks.  (Even though when I'm on the major Same Sex Romances thread in the non-spoiler section, someone always claims that that's only because Jen and Mark always did each other's lines... which doesn't quite explain Kim and Raphael having unique content on the disc.)  Having said that... they probably wanted to simplify the romance system to not have to grade between the three to decide who shows at the conflict, or else do a three-way conflict.  And it made things simpler, no doubt... but I don't know, I'd like the option to Paragonize Ashley and would do one runthrough with her as a LI just for that.  (Okay, and she's not someone I'd kick out of bed for passing wind, either ;).  I just like Liara more, personally.  And I'm not saying that because she's standing behind me with a coffee cup... really ...)

FemShep has more freedom, because FemShep is non-canon herself.

Um... MALE Shep isn't canon either.  He's just DEFAULT.  There's a difference.

Shepard HAS no canon gender, background, or romance.  Shepard is just a LtCdr/N7 in the Alliance Navy, a Spectre, saved the Citadel, died, was recovered by Liara for Cerberus, and came back.  That's it.

Ah. I remember when Casey Hudson came on an article to say there were no f/f romances in ME1. All of the ME forums rolled their eyes in unison.

Okay, no emotes so I'll just have to take the words as 'dismissive' and 'acting like I know nothing'.

Should I look up the quotes and sources for the Mass Effect Wiki page for Commander Shepard?  (Which incidentally has default Jane Shepard next to default John Shepard at the top of the page?)  Or, should I just say 'you're mighty brave in cyberspace, flameboy'?  I can't decide.

I have my theory that ME3 will come down to a danceoff between Harbinger and Shepard with Shepard finally having to learn to dance thus completing the character's story arc.
