I need to express my distaste at this design decision... I am *desperately* trying to trigger the encounter with Velanna's Dalish clan... with no success.

I have, however, had  *more than 30* random encounters... way too much for the level cap. I am going to reach level 35 before I even go to the Blackmarsh, my third main quest.

I also suspect the entire system is bugged, leading to an unlimited amount of encounters...

So Far:

-Darkspawn: 16 encounters... you think I am kidding?

-Wolves: 2 groups, 1 wolves and 1 werewolves.

-Bears: 4 groups of Bearskarn and wolves.

-Bandits: 4 so far...

-Mercenaries: 2 so far...

-Mages: 7,  3 Fen Witch encounters and 4 Blood Mage encounters.

-Undead: 2 skeletons, 1 Revenant and skeletons.

-Dwarves: 2 encounters... I have no idea why they attacked.

-Elves: 2 groups... Oh how I wish they were the *right* elves.

-Sylvans: 1 group.

-Qunari Mercs: 1 group.

-Dragons: 3, dragon and drakes...

-Ferret: No... I am not kidding. The lead designer (Ferret Baudoin) found time for a "homage to self".

Ugh...

So... that is 47. I also had the Lilith encounter, but not Velanna... which seems to be impossible to trigger.

So... who the **** thought this was even remotely an intelligent design decision? Who was measuring the level cap?

And who the **** thought it would be fun to make Velanna's clan a random encounter?

...

EDIT: Updated with further encounters. I now believe they are bugged to be infinite...

I haven't had that many encounters, but I protected the roads. Maybe that does make a difference. On the other hand, I only played through once, and didn't take Velanna, so I didn't travel that much, either. One thing I did notice it that the random encouters and side quest encounters are incredibly simplistic. I really enjoyed the ones in Origins. All of them had tactical elements and some of them were very challenging, both in terms of keeping your party alive and preventing the deaths of others. These were just straight up 'kill the group in front of you.' I found it, well, dull. I agonized about the best way to prevent civilian/ally deaths in the Origins encounters, and there was often a powerful foe/ambush where you least expected it. I found it very disappointing that so little thought and planning seemed to go into these.

It's pretty clear from other threads on this subject that there is a bug with the Velanna encounter. I never got it, but then again I don't feel the need to insist that I do everything on my first playthrough. Finish the game and you can be a completionist some other time, ok?

Sorry to hear that Stoom, and I've been wandering around looking for things(or whatever), to kill, never encountering anything.

As for the "console fix" LOL, good one, IanPolaris. *wink*

I have just updated my main post with further encounters...

I am almost through to proving that *ALL* random encounters are bugged... they are pretty much limitless...

I am going to slam straight into the level cap half way through the game...

So, if I remember right the event triggers along the road from the Wending Woods and Vigils Keep. Is that where you are doing your walking?

Have you had the 15 ogres lining up in a row?

I couldn't stop laughing at how overdone awakening was.

I'm just exaggerating. I think there are about 8 to 10. All yellow level.

Did you find or give Velana's gift to her? Even giving her sisters trinket to her may trigger a encounter. I never had a problem if I gave either of them to her before traveling from the wood to the keep.

Was quite funny how they took turns to grab and punch me, heh.

OP, If you think you had it bad then let me list mine.

Darkspawn - 30 Times
Bandits - 20 times + 3 With the Ferret.
Mercenaries - 10 Times
Spiders - 6 Times
Elves - 4 Times
Dragons - 3 Times
Wolves and Bears or Wolf Alphas - 3 Times
Sylvans - 2 Times
Dwarves - 2 Times

I swear if I meet one more Ogre I will break my keyboard.

is there no way to mod the game to increase the chance of her encounter happening? Or hell at least increasing chance of random encounters happening, going through load screens for nothing to happen is getting damned anoying.
