I expect it will be, but at times in the past it hasn't always been the case.  I would just like it verified before ordering it.

I agree with Archangel. I have similar concerns about those products that are being distributed digitally and our ability to mod them.

I was thinking of picking up the Impulse version of DAO but am worried about whether or not this version can be modded.

Appreciate any response.

Ditto above. Was unable to download or load some mods for Oblivion because of this.

Really? That would...suck. But I'm getting the physical version, so I don't know.

I too hold your concern. That is why I will go out and buy the physical copy just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I think I'll likely err on the side of caution and keep my CE order and wait the extra week to play :|

I suspect any mod that modifies the .exe or any files other than what is in the "mods" folder won't work on the digital version.

the steam version of fallout 3 is mod friendly if that helps.

It would have to be if you are going to be playing the 2 DLCs that are available at game launch.

There is more than one type of mod. We know basic mods you drop into the "mods" folder (or whatever the DA equivilent is) will work. There are some people who take modding further and alter the other files in the game that aren't normally associated with modding. Oblivion modders did this to great effect radically improving aspects of the game.

Mods that effect the exe couldn't be used with steam though because of checks the steam client does when running games.

Well considering that dissembling falls under the illegal category of modding, than I cannot see how this would be an issue for general modification.

You know...I'm not trying to be a jerk (much). But it's pretty obvious you really don't know anything about this subject, you should go read up on mods for other games.

All the Steam games I have are fully modable. You can even turn off the check files thing if you change data files.

Now, changing the executable is entirely different. That'll probably break Steam, the game and as Bio-Boy say probably isn't allowed. Just as it would with a physical install.

The .exe file modification in Oblivion and Fallout 3 was only needed for the script extender mod I think.

Since pretty much everything except the GUI should be based on scripts you can change in the toolset, I don't think you'd need a script extender in DA, but i might be wrong.

I know that one was never needed in NWN modding however, and that's much closer to DA modding than the Beth games'.

PS: I would suggest you move this topic to the modding forum too.

Yeap, good old OBSE...worth it's weight in gold. Either way, I think the consensus is Steam/Impulse and probably D2D if they offer it won't be friendly to unconventional mods. It would still be nice to get an answer from an @Bioware.

the steam version of left 4 dead and portal are moddable, so I think there is a good chance you can mod the DAO steam release.

J/K I'm not that stupid...

honestly though most games that have dev supported modding that are on steam can be modded. I would assume so. also isn't the toolset a separate download anyway? I suppose there may be some issues getting content in if its encrypted; but it really shouldn't be an issue since other editors have been able to get around those problems. I don't know the file structure of dragon age and how the content is organized; but I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.

But I'm so biased toward steam you could probably just discount my argrument if you dont like my conclusion.

When it comes to this issue...usually the problem isn't as much with the game itself, its with the controls placed on the game by the digital content provider; ie Steam / Impulse / D2D.

Yeah, I only mentioned Oblivion because there was certain DLC I got with my purchase via Steam but then there was other official DLC specifically not compatible with digital downloaded versions of the game. I don't care so much about mod ware but just want official DLC from Bioware to work.
