Sorry if this has been posted, or if this if the wrong forum.

I noticed that the DLC is listed as PC/Mac, I was wondering if there was a way I could run ME 2 on OS X. Right now I use bootcamp to run windows on my Mac specifically for Mass Effect 2, and it'd be awesome if I could just run it natively in OS X.

I know Dragon Age runs on Macs, but maybe its wishful thinking. Thanks though.

Macs are not supported. Maybe they will be in the future though. Valve is trying to turn Macs into gaming platforms by porting The Orange Box and encuraging other developers to do the same. BioWare hasn't followed their example (yet) but they may do so in the future. After all, they did port Dragon Age.

You can play Mass Effect 2 on a Mac... if you install Windows through Bootcamp ;)

Don't count on a Mac version.  A native Mac port would be a lot of work, and while there is certainly a desire amongst some Mac users for more game support on their operating system, that number of people is simply too small for EA to justify the time and money such an effort would take.

I like it when people don't read the threads they respond to.

buy an Xbox for $150 to play Mass Effect 2, or buy Windows 7 for $150 to play Mass Effect 2? I downloaded a ported version of Mass Effect 1 onto my Macbook and it runs great with minor graphic issues but even if i get a ported version of ME2 i wont be able to transfer my characters. I think I'm just going to have to buy an Xbox

Native Mac ports? I hope they will do so with ME3. But I wonder if guys at Bioware know that ME2 DLC's have nothing to do with Mac. Perhaps they define DLC's as PC/Mac only because ME2 can run on a Mac with Bootcamp and native Windows. They'd better list games and DLC's as Windows native, though.

I thought dragon age was ported by another company, not EA/Bioware. Its not a native port its a cider/wine wrapper. I have no desire to run graphics intensive games in a wrapper at the cost of frames over bootcamp running the title natively.

Most modern commercial game releases are just cider ports. I've not tried them but I hazard a guess the valve titles do this too. AAA 3D Games will never run natively on Mac's without support for direct X. This is as likely to happen as winning big in the lottery.

All Valve games on Mac are native. They ported the Source engine to OS X an all future titles will be simultaneous PC/Mac releases, starting with Portal 2.

If only BioWare/EA would take the same route instead of using Cider, even though Jade Empire was a decent port thanks to its Open GL roots, and Dragon Age is still OK.

But I wonder what kind of performance we could get from a demanding game like ME2 running inside a cider wrapper? I'm afraid only the beefiest Mac Pros would run it at acceptable frame rates.

I don't know why people still try to play games on mac. comparing to investing money, mac is way beyond expansive if you consider a mac as gaming machine. there are several nice pc laptops in the market which cost way cheaper than mac. I don't understand people. if you try to argue with me, forget about it. it's game site. all about PC, and windows. for mac platform, graphic boosting techinque can't take advantage of the whole goody hardware unlikely directX 10, or 11 supported by windows. openGL is sucks 1000 times. it doesn't take advantage of itself. it's only good for specific software for mac. not game. if you want, why don't you just buy cheap PC to play game? it's the whole a lot better. you don't have to worry about compatibility whatsoever.

I can only speak for myself: The Mac is my platform of choice, and I'm very happy with it. I don't want a second device just to play a game or two. Therefore I'm glad, EA/BioWare release games like Jade Empire or Dragon Age for OS X, even though the performance of the latter is not comparable to the PC version, at least not on my two-year old iMac.

Of course I could use Boot Camp to play ME2, but I feel no need to mantain a second OS, because I would use Windows only for games. People have different tastes and preferences in OSes, and I chose OS X. So for me it makes perfect sense to play a game in my native environment, even if it means to make a few compromises in terms of performance.
