I'm wondering on what the thoughts of others are on this topic. Personally I found the ME1 (PC) HUD to be brilliant. It gave me clear and multiple options for tactics, weapons, and powers. The ME2 HUD on the other hand I find to be lacking in detail and a bit on the small side.

Just wondering if I'm alone in this view etc?

EDIT: someone commented on the original poll and suggested I needed to clarify if I'm talking about xbox or PC. I'm talking PC. To help people make their decision here, I've also included four pictures, two each from ME1 and ME2, each with one normal, and one paused with the full HUD brought up.

ME1 HUD - normal
ME1 HUD - paused, full HUD

ME2 HUD - normal
ME2 HUD - paused, full HUD

The HUD Poll - vote now

One thing I don't like is the Squadmate pictures on the ME 2 hud.

I personally wouldn't mind hudless as it really didn't serve much purpose in ME 2 IMO

The HUD in 2 is utterly useless, you only ever need to know that your shields are gone, and you get 3 cues of that happening, minus the flashing shield bar.

I agree both on the squadmate pictures and the lack of detail. The HUD in ME! was very cool, ging you detailed information on the status of your squad, radar, and a futuristic-looking crosshairs. THe ME2 HUD is kind of bland by comparison.

In ME1 your squad and yourself were built tough and shield/health information gave you information and time enough to decide to use defensive powers or medigels.

Your teammates in ME2 are mildly retarded. Watching their shields and health would be more of a distraction then helper.

All the needs to be shown in ME2 is if they are alive or dead so you know whether or not to use unity.

I would like more info but they need to be tougher before I care enough about their actual HP level.

Mass Effect (PC) had an excellent UI. I don't really like the one from Mass Effect 2... it's not bad, but it's very small. I have a 19' screen and it's hard to see exactly what's going on during a firefight. Especially on the Hammerhead tank. It's beautifully designed and animated, but integrating the UI into the hull is just weird.

This is the HUD I think they should've  used.

On the 360 ME HUD, no problems. In ME2, hopeless, it may as well not be there. Dead squad mate, not that I could easily tell from the shaded out head merged with the game environment at the bottom of the screen. LOL Tali always looked like a Jawa (can't quite remember if that's the term - the Dantoonie scavengers).

I still prefer the ME1 (PC) HUD. The new (PC) HUD doesn't really appeal to me.

ME2 HUD is useless. Not only it's a total overuse of symbols (as opposed to actual gauges and stuff), but the extremely high speed at which it changes from one state to the other just kills the use of it (eyeblink... and... boom! you have no shields and you've got 1 pixel of health).

Would've been easier just with a red (and damn glowing and noticable ffs) lightbulb indicating bad health.

I probably the one one here that is going to say that I like the HUD better than ME1, because it is considerable crisper in design and function. The overall menus are a quite an improvement also.

Wait a minute, Mass Effect 2 had a HUD? All you had was your weapon and how much ammo, oops sorry “thermal clips” you had and two face icons for your squad mates (that usually were over your ass when you were just walking) that did nothing but remind you of who you chose for the mission.

Definitely the ME 1 HUD for me on both PC and XBox. Didn't like the ME2 HUD. I like pausing a lot and I did less of that in ME2 which is a shame.

Drago - well hence the generalised dislike of the ME2 HUD, for me at least. The ME1 system was very clear and gave you every option. Tthe ME2 HUD however seems, in a similar way to the RPG mechanics, to have been over-simplified.

I preferi the HUD from ME1 (Xbox360) especially because of bigger text and less empty space in the interface (I really don't know why ME2 have all that unused space and tiny text, it doen't look cool at all).

Please, someone at Bioware take note. The HUD in ME2 was the most useless I have ever encountered. In ME1 it was intuitive and informative. Everything just made sense.

I quit looking at the HUD in ME2 after about an hour of play. The design choice of flashing wedges and bars just baffles me. It tells you nothing. You just wait for your squad mate to die, then resurrect.

Will the OP be kind enough to start a poll on this? If not I will.

Definitely ME1 HUD. It was way better. At least on the PC version.

The HUD in ME1 was way better IMO (on 360)

In one quick look you could see everybody HP, shields, what weapon squadmates were using and whether they were following you or stationary.

Of course, in ME2 cooldown was added. So that would make a lot of information on a tiny space but I'm still convinced that It could have been far better than the new one.

Ok... I think I will be the only one to say that, but I thought it was better with ME2 on PC than in ME1.

The radar was useless in my opinion because most of the time, it was jammed by geth. Plus, everything was on the bottom left corner... The life/shield, the overheat of the weapon, if you are tired, grenade, first aid... Too many things that I don't really care.

In the second one, you only see shield/hp, when you are not hit, which is just above the life of the teammates. You can easily see if their skill is in cooldown, which helps a lot. And finaly the ammo of the gun. WAYYYY more space and everything I need is there, can't really ask for more.

I don't like that the ME2 HUD dosn't have a permanent minimap and that the Allies health bar is considerably harder to read

You just have to get used to it, then it's easy. When you see near the face of an ally a grey... form(?), the teammate's shield is hit. If the form is red, you know their hp is hit. I like that more than if they had the blue and red bar for each teammates, that would take too much place O.o

I miss my map in ME2 as well. I guess that was to hide how straight line the ME2 missions were ;)
