You know OP I thought the same thing a long time ago when Oblivion was released. All the old time RPG players were complaining about the game. I thought, hmm these guys don't know what they are saying they just can't play the game because it has FPS elements. They lack the skills. Over time I began to see their points and one day a light went on and I thought ya know what, they were right.

Shrug, you act like playing a fps is a gateway to uber hand eye cooridination and anyone who is good at a fps can go on to be the next legendary nhl goalie. Ya, riigggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhtttttt!(majority of people who game aren't strong enough to even carry the equipment let alone skate well enough) Most hardcore fps players use a mouse and keyboard anyway. Not the best means of determining hand eye cooridination there. Look, some people pissed you off and that stinks but don't make threads to troll an entire community. Unless you get off on it. I guess that would be alright.

I don't know, go on being miserable and call us all idiots if you like.

*Here is an interesting actidote.  One of the brain trusts behind Fallout 3 said they created V.A.T.S so that you didn't have to be a COD ninja to pull off three headshots in a pinch.  Remember, RPG's are a genre.  Most RPG players aren't looking to test their reflexes in a RPG game.  If people want to do that they would play a FPS or maybe a fighting game or something.  That's why different types of games exist.

*Finally, if people are idiots the determining factor of if they are an idiot isn't related to which type of game they play.  Chances are those people are just idiots regardless.  Unfortunately, for fps games it seems that the idiots do gravitate to them for some reason...Posted Image

I only like rpg games for its wide gameplay and its option to pick and not have a set out path for you.

having a feel for the characters too is imprortant for me , which i dont think any other genre's apart from well designed rpg games give .

Are you serious Dudebag? For the record i loved ME2 as much as DAO. Got no problem playing World of Warcraft, then stopping it for a while to play the new Stalker. There is nothing wrong with people who play Modern Warfare 2, the whole point of gaming is for us to stick together, against non gamers who mock us.

You mean people mock us?  Really?  Usually people just tell me to grow up if I mention video games.  I don't really get mocked per say.  Usually the people who are saying that are my parents.  Most people I run into don't really look down on me if I mention games.  However, one of my friends won't let me mention video games if we go out looking for women.

*Honestly, if I start talking to a non gamer about games I'll mention some of the games and tell them about features and things.  Most of the time the people are amazed.  Frankly, there are many people who still think games are duck hunt and paper boy.  If you sit down and talk to them like normal people a non gamer will most likely be amazed and end up checking out some things or even maybe buying a game.

Do you remember those who called themselves the "RPG purists" who would accuse Bioware of dumbing down ME2 to cater to the "13 year old COD kiddies"? This thread is aimed at them and not the RPG genre as a whole, they seem to think that being able to play an RPG makes them intelligent dispite the fact that most RPGs are dumbed down to the point where higher stats + better gear = victory.

For the record I love RPGs, Baldurs Gate 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, but if you think RPGs are the true test of ones intelligence then you are deluding yourself.

I dont know about all RPG players being idiots but you have shown that you clearly lack the ability to read, could you please show me where I say "fps is a gateway to uber hand eye cooridination and anyone who is good at a fps can go on to be the next legendary nhl goalie" or anything remotely similar?

NO!!!!

But it is. The players each make one move per turn, and it's heavily strategical. Yes, you can blunder your way through if you're lucky, but chances are you can't.  Easy to play, hard to master. Probably closer to impossible, actually.

Thinking along those lines isn't tic tac toe a turn based strategy game?  Okay I'll just say it, somebody had to.  "How about a nice game of chess?" spoke a fluctuating digitzed voice.Posted Image

I think most complains are about the fact that most games today simply lack the complexity classic games often had. For me, that doesn´t necessary mean these games were harder, you just had to learn more about the combat mechanics and or plan ahead. D&D games are a good example for this.

There is more to a RPG than a deep combat system and i love and play DA/ME like crazy.

However some might call DA or ME2 dumped down compared to past games and to an extend, they may be right. The trend definitly goes in that direction, but this has been the case since some years and is not restricted to RPGs alone.

Don´t get me wrong, more accessible and easy RPG´s, or games in general, are a good thing in my opinion. They sell better and attract a broader audience, which is good for the studios, resulting in more ressources for future games. Sometimes though, i wish there would be more classic-like games with an emphasis on deep combat and more strategy.

But i don´t think RPG players, or a small part of them, are idiots...it´s more like what Godak said ^_^
