UPDATE: Apparently it was some kind of Awakening Bug. We have no hope of seeing our LIs in an Awakening DLC. Please, feel free to be royally pissed off at officially being brushed off with a five second letter. I know I am.

----

So, I am sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but I can't find it. Here was a letter to be found in your pack when you had a romance with Zevran:

Greetings from Antiva! I would prefer to be where you are, my sweet. Antiva is so dull without you to brighten it. Even with the Crows trying to hunt me down, this place lacks the excitement of being at your side.

Ah, well. I expect the Guildmaster will agree to meet me soon. Or maybe I should kill him! What do you think?

I hear the darkspawn have still not gone away? They are like houseguests who overstay their welcome, no? I am saddened you have to deal with such business without me. I must deal with the Crows, but when I return to you, not even sharp razors will be able to separate us! Until then, you remain in my dreams. Especially the naughty ones.

Yours always, Zevran.

So, why exactly was this cut? I know for a fact adding in a note to your inventory isn't that difficult. As one of the (apparently) few Zevran fangirls, I am sad that this was taken out.

EDIT: Leliana's Note:

Dearest,

I hope you are well. Alas, I am
unable to come to the keep as I promised. I am so sorry, but the Grand
Cleric herself wishes to speak with me. I will tell you all about it
once I have had my audience. Is it true the darkspawn have not
retreated? No matter, I'm sure you have it under control. Wish I could
be there, killing darkspawn beside you. Perhaps you could save some for
me? (All right, that was a joke. Do not spare them. That would be
silly.) You are always in my thoughts.

Love, Leliana

P.S. Maybe
you could consider growing some roses around your keep? That would make
it so much prettier, don't you think?

Well that's just baffling. I played Awakening with an elf rogue character who romanced Zevran, and was confused because the end of the romance in DA:O didn't mesh at all with how things stood at the beginning of DA:A. That letter would've explained a lot.

BTW, the "function" of the private who stands outside the porticullis to the inner keep is to give you letters from time to time.

I never got very many from her. I imagine she was originally supposed to have a larger purpose, possibly delivering letters like this, throughout the game.

Heck, I even remember asking "hmm, why didn't Leli or Zev at least write a letter while you're away?"

I don't understand why something like this was cut. These little things are what really adds immersion to a game, and it's kinda sad that it was cut from Awakening.

This makes no sense whatsoever. I can understand budget concerns... but *this* was scrapped? Bioware, you need to explain this one... because we get few enough references as it is.

My respect for the devs just lowered considerably.

I am sure there is some kind of explanation, but it is still incredibly upsetting nevertheless.

@Cybant: I thought she'd be sending me actual letters, as well. I only got quests? I thought that was weird.

I too would like to know why this was cut!

I figured the private would be giving the Warden letters from people from Origins not unlike how you would get emails from people in ME2. It seemed like this could have been an easy way to make for a greater sense of continuity between the games, but instead we just ended up getting a couple quests out of it.

Unless throwing a letter in there was a big timesink or expensive to do, I'm kind of baffled why more wasn't done with this aspect of the game.

Same with Leliana. Can someone post her letter here?

It wouldn't be THAT costly to add a letter to your inventory now would it? Why make the effort to put the letters in the toolset in the first place? They didn't even throw a bone to players that got their romance interrupted for no reason(other than the lame tight budget excuse).

It's actually very easy to script a letter into your inventory at the start of the game.

Humm..now that you mention it..my current character in Awakening..had a romance with Zevran in Origins, he was 100% and..I had forgotten that there should be "some" reference to him in Awakening, she is now level 29 and I haven't seen ANYTHING referring to him at all. NADA.

Instead I got the usual cut-scene with a 2 dimensional (personality-wise) Alistair..again.

And I do check for letters..from the guard standing in front of the gate.

This would have assuaged quite a bit of my annoyance with Awakenings. A letter explaining why I am entering battle without my bound-for-life war dog would have been nice, too, but I guess they were too busy "fixing" the "broken" dialog system.

So there isn't any Morrigan letter hidden in there? I imagine it would probably either be a request for child support or a restraining order against my Warden...:wizard:

Apart from having to go back to the same old camp everytime, I liked the old one? The new one is just cutting costs.

Dog probably "died" somehow and they will never explain why.

As for Morrigan, I can imagine we will see her story very soon...

Oh great... now I can't wait to get back to Denerim to hear all about her meeting with the Grand Cleric

Reminds me why half my characters end up dead.

Hmm... now that you mentioned Morrigan.... they could've just made something with the ring. Show it glowing on your finger or something. But they couldn't even do the letters right, so I think I'm asking too much. :P

Is it possible that the letters not showing up is a bug? Considering the all-round bugginess of the expansion, I wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe because the letters make references to what Zevran and Leiliana have been doing... Storylines they don't want to commit to at the moment.

...

This was the opinion in the other thread on this topic... and it is a load of BS.

Hopeful BS, though.

There is *NO* plan. There is *NO* continuity.

It is like saying whatever we do to the Architect will have an impact on the next game.

It won't...

Think about it:

Exactly how much of your *real* decisions carried over? The broadest ones. Nothing specific. Even the vital and important aspects were not. Even the decisions in the slides were not.

The choices you made at the coronation? Nope. Your romance? Nope. Teryn of Gwaren? Nope. Statue in the courtyard? Nope. Freeing the Circle of Magi? Nope. Wynnes actual fate? Nope.

About the best is the King/Queen and Bhelen. That is it. Oh... Warden's Keep gets a mention.

Wow.

They were trying to give the illusion of choices carrying over, but I doubt they really gave a toss about it.

Anyone saying that they have an ultimate plan involving your love interest, and that is why they were not mentioned, is really fooling themselves.

I would be suprised if anything in Awakening is mentioned in any hypothetical sequel. Maybe "the keep fell" and that is it.

They have pretty much screwed us for continuity when you really examine what they have left us.

The letters would have been.... nice.... *sniff*  Posted Image

No... No... I am not bitter... Posted Image

Yes I was very disappointed in the continuity, tbh. I think the plot for this game is just brilliant, though. I couldn't vouch for anything else.

Intriguing. Still even then the continuity is broken in regards to Zevran even if you didn't romance him because he expresses desire to join you onto Amarinthine =(

But I wonder why they were cut, were they just trying to show how much the epilogues sucked even more??? Confusing.

I'm inclined to agree with most of this assesment. While no one is in a real position to judge whether a "plan" exists οr not, there is certainly not enough 'continuity' in Awakening, as no decision with substance carries over.

It's worse than ME2 in that regard. In that they don't even mention 90 percent of the things you did.

Interesting find, and curious as to why they didn't include such simple things given how they would have gone a good ways in satisfying a chunk of the crowd. Maybe they couldn't get the letters to insert themselves correctly based on a decision, (though this could have been remidied by a very short dialogue chat and inserted based on your selection) or as flarearrow said it's possible they're something they want to leave open for later, DLC maybe? Those really are the only logical reaons I can think of why something so simple that would have done a good job satisfying was cut. Or perhaps they couldn't fit it in the budget, damned text is costly as hell afterall. ;)

Been a while since my Origins play through but I seem to remember somewhere in my epilogue it saying something like "in time the adventurers were scattered to the four winds" or something like that. I took this to mean that regardless of what "plans" were made with characters in my final dialogues, everybody ended up going separate ways. Sad, but Ferelden's a wild place. Never know where people's destinies will take them. I do hope to cross paths with the old pals from Origins in satisfying ways in the next one though.

Oh, that's why my PC went chasing after Zev in the epilouge... I wish I'd known this letter existed before doing my last playthrough, I was pissed that Zev didn't talk to me at all and wasn't mentioned until the epi. Stupid cut letter...
