i'd like to know how they would continue our wardens story to dragon age 2 (if they do), since apparently everyone in amaranthine believes my warden is a maleficar or a demon (though he was a maleficar)
Zevran & Leliana letters in Awakening (very upset fans in here!)

So, why exactly was this cut?
The only explanation I can think of, is that the Devs have some other plans for Zev and Leliana that would not fit into the context of the letter. However, I haven't played Awakening yet, so I don't know exactly what the epilogue says about the romances in both cases and therefore ma be wrong in my assumption.
Given the balance issues at high level already, I have trouble imagining another expansion using the same Warden. Could be wrong, but it already feels like the system is breaking down.
And yes, this does seem like sheer stupidity. I don't understand some of the continuity decisions Biowar is (not) making.

I would find that a compelling argument, except that the letter does tie into the epilogue you get... when you romance Zevran, anyway (I don't know about Lel's epilogue, though..).
But really... such a small acknowledgement would have gone a long way for Zev/ Lel fans.

I would be disappointed if they expansion allowed me to revisit old locations, meet old characters and the continuity were broke (Orzammar with another King, werewolves still in the Bricilian Forest, the Circle still fiddling with blood magic, etc.), while - given the whole different direction taken by the expansion - I'm not unhappy with the lack of said continuity, apart from Zevran/Leliana's letters missing that is.

Aside from the lack of these letters, which would have been really great to receive in-game, I'm not that disappointed by the continuity in Awakening. I mean, you don't visit locations you already visited, you don't meet old characters and the few ones you meet correctly represented the choices you made in Origins, you don't meddle in the political decision you made in the first game. As such, I didn't feel the need for an absolute continuity, and I was happy with the snippets of continuity my character stumbled upon (Wynne being alive; Bhelen being King, since I suppose that others got a mention of Harrowmont if they supported him; etc.).

Yeah, I think there's only so much you can reference before the coding has to get out of control with the amount of choices players could make. But given the importance of the romances in the first game, I think the letters were one of those references that should've been made. Not having them there--or any mention of the romances by returning characters--was the only criticism I had of Awakening. Until I got the epilogue card that explained what was going on, I was in the dark and really confused, and it broke immersion in a way. In future playthroughs, I at least had that bit of meta knowledge and filled in the blanks myself, but the letters would've been a welcome addition.

It's actually very easy to script a letter into your inventory at the start of the game.
edit: Leli's note:
Dearest,
I hope you are well. Alas, I am
unable to come to the keep as I promised. I am so sorry, but the Grand
Cleric herself wishes to speak with me. I will tell you all about it
once I have had my audience. Is it true the darkspawn have not
retreated? No matter, I'm sure you have it under control. Wish I could
be there, killing darkspawn beside you. Perhaps you could save some for
me? (All right, that was a joke. Do not spare them. That would be
silly.) You are always in my thoughts.
Love, Leliana
P.S. Maybe
you could consider growing some roses around your keep? That would make
it so much prettier, don't you think?
Now that letter could explain a lot if they could add it the Awakening. I got really curious about Leliana and kinda worried if she killed off. Well at least this letter could be a good reason why she wasnt here with me and this letter cut out from the Awakening ? Really dont get it

I suspect my hunch is correct..and that its going to be "in with the new" and out ENTIRELY with the old.
So much for your "choices and decisions having an effect in Awakening"

There is something. Minor things, little details, sure. But they are there. Your choice for King of Ferelden, your choice for King of Orzammar, is Loghain alive or no, is Wynne alive or no... And then your origin, which slightly modifies your relationship with Anders (if you're mage) and Velanna (if you're elf) and Nathaniel (if you're a human noble).
It's not the grand continuity of everything I'd have liked, for sure, but - since the expansion took an entirely different direction - I was content even with this limited continuity... aside from the cut letters

Its like they tossed us a scrap and then expected that was good enough. Its not..its disappointing. I see that Alistair gets at least something that is obvious, noticeable. I think I heard mention of Warden's Keep, somewhere in there...why? Sophia Dryden. That was a dlc where NOTHING was porting over, why would they mention that in passing?
It just seems kind of hap-hazard how they did things. Yes Alistair was a romance in some of my play-throughs, but I DID include Zevran a couple times, as I wanted to see the effect on the story in Awakening. End result: nothing.
But again..I think the grand plan is...that whoop once DA:2 is out..everything that we knew ..will be gone. Period.

I agree. There was barely any continuity. Yes, I felt like my Warden was a hero, and for once she actually felt like she lived up to her reputation... but, Wynne was in it? Psh. She wasn't in it. She didn't even seem very happy to see me. I mean, when I saw her I went, "OMGWYNNEOMGOMGOMG" but then she... who was she?
Oghren didn't even seem to know me that well. He also acted differently.
There were a few bits and bobs, but... c'mon. They didn't make me feel any better about anything. It was still lacking considerably. It felt like Oblivion in the sense I didn't really have any connection to anyone. Everyone was just there, but didn't really see my character. They just said stuff and went on their merry way.
Oh, and for some reason, you can't import a dead Warden. That speaks wonders for their fanbase.

Unfortunately, the countdown is to some epic BioWare social network event.

Yes there was another long thread about the letters and why your PC has time to go do some dopey chantry/side quests but not read or jot off a quick message to your S.O. I romanced Alistair and made him king on the one Awakenings play I plan on doing. So I actually got a small moment with my Cousland girl's sweetheart. But i felt SO SO badly for those who romanced Leli, Zev and hell considering how shafted guys who romanced Morrigan were I don't wanna even GO there. I knew the romances wouldn't be in there cause I read the FAQ but that FAQ also said they would be acknowledged. One lousy paragraph of text at the end was epic fail of acknowledgement. Yes I felt there should have been a letter for the PC, maybe that girl with the letters or even a non descript little messenger coming in saying he had a letter for the WC.
First playthrough I knew only Ally-wally would appear if king, so I got my human noble. If only the other appearances were that nice.

Technically, you did break up with Morrigan. Have you played through the game entirely? I have a feeling we will see her again soon

This just demonstrates how little Bioware cares about the fans of their games and what they want. They basically said screw the people who care about the characters from the first game and who care about continuity. They COULD have appeased fans of Zev and Le but instead they gave us a big F off. THERE is NO reason why they could have not included those letters...Well it is just a cautionary tale about future expansions and dragon age 2 as well...
I wouldn't go that far. I think a lot of devs do care even just a tad about their fans. I think this was just forced out early. They keep saying, EA hasn't changed us, but it's pretty obvious from day one it did.

Umm... but that's not the point he was trying to make. In order to get the correct epilogue in Awakening, the romance must be active. Morrigan's romance deactivates automatically after the final battle. See the problem here?Lucy_Glitter wrote...

The devs overlooked that fact, and the majority of people who romanced Morrigan won't even get the epilogue they were supposed to get. You have to resort into unorthodox methods to get it. The most common is to forgo the correct DAO ending(aka don't get the ring mention in your epilogue by ignoring her completely during the final battle).
Morrigan fans got the worst DAO ending AND a bugged Awakening ending....and you guys are complaining for a silly letter... tsk tsk tsk
EDIT: Not trying to ***** about the fact that Morrigan's romance sucks or anything. I'm just letting you know that it could have been worse than a missing letter. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie] I would still love to see it for my PC that romanced Leliana.

I am happy that they didnt forgot to add the romances at the and. It is based on your post-coronation choices.
I would like to see a cut scene too. A little one like Alistair even. As long as they didnt forgotten though I am good.
