Well...maybe.  http://kotaku.com/54...tasy-vii-remake

So basically, the CEO of Square-Enix decided that a project as lucrative as remaking the most critically acclaimed RPG of all time was too fortuitous an opportunity to neglect.
Frankly, I am thrilled at the idea of this game being remade.  Final Fantasy VII isn't even my favorite game in the series(that award goes to Final Fantasy VI) but it is definetly one of the better games.

Final Fantasy VII came out 13 years ago.  There are people born when Final Fantasy VII came out who are almost as old as I was when the came first came out(14).  I think the time is ripe for this new generation of gamers to experience a remade version of this RPG masterpiece.

Bioware has long replaced Square as the king of RPGs but I think even the mere consideration by Square to remake one of their classics shows that maybe Square/Enix is heading back in the right direction and will actually give their fans what they really want.

They said they're looking into it. Not that they'll actually do it.

Yes, but that is a welcome change in rhetoric from their past dismissals to even consider it. I believe Square-Enix has undergone changes in management since the initial dismissal of Final Fantasy VII remake, so I think that these new faces are more keen on the idea of giving their fans what they really want.

I'll never be more than casually interested until they slash a 'I' off that 'VII'.

I think the most we can hope for for a Final Fantasy VI remake is a remake on the DS.

This. If SquareEnix wants to get me back on the Final Fantasy wagon they need to remake FFVI. I enjoyed FFVII, but it didn't compare to VI IMO.

Yeah, but have you ever heard it come from Square/Enix's CEO?  Or how about anyone at Square at all?

This is big news.

Fans keep saying it over and over and over.... They've already milked it enough as far as I'm concerned. <_<

They didn't say its coming, they just said its a "possibility". and they are "looking into it". Doesn't mean it will actually come.

They can't not make this game. Their staff members and game directors want to make it. They have hoards of fans that are begging them to make it. It's a pile of money just waiting to be harvested. All they need to do is figure out how to do it. And that is precisely what they are talking about right now: how they can make it happen.

If all we get is a DS port a la FFIV, I'll still be thrilled. But I would prefer a PS3 full remake. But there are some serious technical issues with that, due to the complexity of the towns and the number of chatable NPCs. It's a part of the reason that FFXIII was done the way it was. Rendering all that in HD would be a monumental undertaking. They weren't quite ready for it, and so they had to do some stream-lining.

Too much teasing is too much. First the visual test using FF7 openning. Then Square asking what people think about a FF7 remake on their Japanese Twitter Blog, getting so many responses they asked for no more responses, and that was just Japan. At least I read that part somewhere else. A FF7 remake would get my interest.

As for FF6, wasn't that for Nintendo systems? Can they make it for Sony? The original 7 and 8 are up on the PSN, but that's b/c they were originally for the PS1.

Anyway, if they did remake it, I would consider getting a PS3 or PSP. There were already games for those systems that I wanted to try out, but there were never enough games to make me get the system.

I would love to see FFVI come to a DS port as well. I'm slightly less interested in seeing it come to full HD, however. Still, and updated version would be fantastic.

Just because they say they will "look into it" does not mean that they "want" to make it. Don't mix the two up.

So? Are they going to listen? Fans have been begging for years and guess what? Still no FFVII remake in development.

And that "pile of money" can come from their yet to be released games like versus and agito 13. Why should they remake 7 just for "that" pile of money"?

Does not necessarily mean they will develop it.

That is absolute garbage, do you have anything to back up this ridiculous assertion? I guess not seeing that if it were true, then Versus XIII shouldn't even have a world map , airships and TOWNS which it did according to the developers.

And just why exactly should they remake this game? While FFVII was a pretty good game for its time(yeah i played and liked it), it is by far the most overrated game i have ever played and it is a far cry from "t3h best game eva" that most weaboo's try to tell me . If i recall the only people that actually want a FFVII remake are hardcore FFVII fans on drugs. Its not like every single gamer out there in society wants an actual remake but rather a very vocal minority.

Do some research. Their staff and game directors want to make the game. It's actually number 1 on the Final Fantasy director's list of desired projects.

I talked about why it's hard to do. That doesn't mean they don't intend to try.

Seriously? People are offering them millions of dollars and they'll just turn it donw. "No thanks, we've got plenty." Yeah right.

Really?! Are you really sure about that!? OMG I had no idea!!! Do you have any other intellectual gems to share with us?

Foot, meet mouth. Look up the interviews with the game directos. It's not hard to find.

Omg, you see what I did there? The expression of the differences in taste? Shocking, I realize, but it's actually a very common phenomenon. So, see, while there are people that aren't all that in love with the game, it's a matter of the many many many people that will pay for the game if it gets remade. Money in Square's pocket. They just have to do the foot work and collect.

Printing text isn't really the big problem and I think Squaresoft could afford the VO for it.

Animation and model detail expectations are kind of where the problem comes.

Actually, they've specificaly talked about the to detail needed to render the towns and cities in full HD. They are very large and full of ineractable NPCs. Notice in FFXIII, almost none of the NPCs are fully interactable. They just auto-respond to the PCs presence. You can't actively engage any of them. It's not specifically a bad thing, but it's very different from FFVII. I forget the specific director's name that talked about it in an interview. It was one of the factors that lead to FFXIII being the way it is. Not the only one, or the most important one, but one of the things that motivated them.

But now that hey have more experience working with the architecture, they're thinking they can try more ambitious undertakings and pull them off. This is the reason for more of the freedom in FFXIII:V. Now, this part is just me speculating, but I think that after seeing what they were able to do in FFXIII they decided to change gears a bit and really strech their legs in FFXIII:V and this is why they anounced that developmental gear shifting not so long ago and then introduced the implimentation of the world map and airship.

PS3 Graphics powered Tifa? YES PLEASE!!! :o:wub:

I would love a FF7 PS3 remake so that we won't lose our access to the game forever when we run outta ways to play the PS1 version. (Don't know anything about the PSN version, would appreciate info on it.)

One note for any who don't know: I've researched the PS3 Specs & it only has 256MB of RAM & VRAM. I personally think this was a complete & utter act of scroogedom, it shoulda had at least 1GB of RAM. (Also would welcome info on 'VRAM'.) Blame the console for PS3 game faults, not the games. If 4GB can be considered average RAM for PCs, then 1GB for a modern console should not be unfeasible. <_<

Different game flavors for different people. To each their own. Those who aren't fans of the FF Series have plenty of other games to drool over. Can't we all get along?

You can direct download it any time from PSN. I believe the price is $7 or $8USD.

I'm with you two. I obviously will appreciate a PS3 version of Aeris, but i would be much more happier with a PS3 version of Celes from FFVI. I keep imagining VI's map music right now, and the Opera house!:o

...  ahhhh  memories

I'm glad they're at least talking about the possibility of a remake. I won't get my hopes up, but I'd buy a PS3(or whatever console it might come out on) in a heart beat if it happens.
