I wouldn't mind seeing a CGI version of that 'walking time-bomb' sort of skill mages can choose to get. That would be pretty awesome.

2 minutes into this should be what you want to see

Oh my god, I've actually watched that, but I didn't even notice somehow.

Haha, thank you muchly for the link!

I agree. They've promoted Wardens as melee specialists in heavy armor. Also, if you look at ME, they mostly showed off the soldier class and made that the default.

Ahh magic missile and darkness THAT is a spell combo I want to see. I think it would be cool to see mages break the "no-armor" cliche. Dragon Age has already broken most fantasy cliches so why not this one?

The mages are just all behind the armored Wardens and using them as meat shields. ;P

Read The Calling, then you'll change your mind.

Oh and it's Grey not Gray =)

mages are less intense and dont blood on their face. they are usually secondary supporters while the "hero" charges in to battle

meh I've always thought of the mage as the guy who does all the grunt work and doesn't get half the credit as the huge guy in the front of him. We do all the damage and undo all the damage our allies take and yet they get the credit for jumping into the grease fire with the enemy heheh.

No doubt! Let's see what happens when you're up there taking all that damage, and we stop buffing and healing you...Hmmm?

That depends entirely on which country you live in.Image IPB
Anyway, I have to trouble imagining mages as being tough enough to be leaders of an army. Their powers and insight would probably make influencing people to join them much easier than any common-born Warden could.

Actually, that doesn't matter at all. In English, both are acceptable.

Anyway. Yeah yeah, mages are the workhorses, sure. They're sitting in the back casting spells while those ungrateful sods up front get blasted halfway to hell and back by the enemy. Yeah, the mages don't get enough thanks.

:innocent:

Yes, you learn his back story from The Calling. He was a theif who was conscripted into the gray wardens. It's not the main point of the book, but you do learn a few things about him.

One thing that might encourage mages to become wardens is that they are not under the thumb of the Chantry and Templars any more, at least it appeared such in "The Calling"

But in in the game a warrior can dual wield and pickpocket....besides rogues and warriors are pretty much the same...

Warriors soak up damage better. Rogues don't but hit harder. No one ever said there was meant to be a huge difference in how they operate.

only because they dont let the rogues grab the shield talents anymore...otherwise they could soak up all the damage also...

I don't think there is really any kind of uniform. They seem to kinda wear what they want.

At about 2:00 you see a Grey Warden Mage kicking some ass, then getting saved by a Rogue.

This video's awesome!

You seriously need to read the Calling to see how a mage can be a Grey Warden (and a seriously bad ass one as well). Why have you not picked the books up again?

It’s the western stereotype mages are week and so have to be in the back supporting the blood thirty warrior :P

This is blasphemy. Every Mage Warden equals at least three of you pathetic non-Mage Wardens!

It is mentioned in the Mage Origin that there is only ever 1 mage in the Grey Wardens at a time.

Oh... I am a mage, and I can wear heavier armors than Alistair ;)

And I don't need the shield line, because I have spells like Rock Armor and Arcane shield, plus the Arcane warrior line. Have you ever tried to fire a fireball in your own face while you have the arcane warrior talent that grants you resistance 75% to all elements and a large number of enemies attacking you? I have, and it's very funny, more than the never changing tactics of the melee warriors.

The Maker bless the Arcane Warriors.

Since your little mage can freeze, petrify, crush, drain, explode, madden, or elecrocute the big warriors at whim I don't think his self esteem will suffer.  :wizard:

While mages are powerull and irrepalcable areal damage dealers and crow controles, I DID find it hard to identify my mage as a Gray Warden. I have compleated the game as a Berserker/Chapion, which was great - the feeling of beeing a bad*** warrior was on the spot. Mages, however, feel too cililized and...soft, somehow. I always get somewhat confused when someone addresses me as a "Gray Warden" - I just don't feel like one while playing a mage...
