There's a sticky at the top of the page with links to several build guides, but the short answer for 2H is...

1) Everything into STR

2) Get Precise Striking early and run it constantly

3) Get Death Blow asap

4) Spam 'special attacks'

In the expansion, just make sure to get the spirit warrior specialization and fill all 3 rune slots with momentum runes.

I hate the new 2h talents. They either drain stamina too fast or are not worth the damage they do thanks to the difficult aim. Reaving storm and Onslaught are especially useless.

A 2h Spirit Warrior is awesome though. Incredible damage potential because of the armour pen, but the sustain is even worse than Combat Magic for ruining cut scenes.

When Onslaught actually works, it's pretty devastating....

that being said, I've lost track of the number of times I've told Oghren to do it and then found myself shouting "NO ATTACK THE OTHER WAY, TOWARDS THE 5 HURLOCKS AND THE EMISSARY! STUPID DWARF!"

Yep. thats Oghren! still, he's still quite devastating even in the beginnning.

but i like the first new talents(sweeping strike i think it is) quite handy since its a cone ranged attack, something that always comes in handy if u aim it right.

My tips for the 2h enthusiast:

1) Strength is the priority!

****Put as much of your level ups into this stat. If you want to make out Coercion plan to have 16 in Cunning. If you want Disengage, or Perfect Striking plan to have 18 Dex. Since we are discussing Awakenings you don't need as much Willpower as you might in Origins (and this really depends on play style.) due to Clarity (new skill that you will want to max). You don't need to put points in Magic, or Constitution. You may want to put points in Con if you use the Guardian spec, but it's not needed.****

2) As for 2h talents... Well the classic ones are still good. You can skip Destroyer if you really want. The classic's never get old in Awakening. Sunder Arms & Armor are still great. Mighty Blow, Pommel Strike, and 2h sweep are still useful. I happen to like Critical Blow, but I suppose you could skip it. I've always found it situational. Lump it in with the skippable camp so Destroyer isn't too lonely.

3) As for Awakening talents you will want Sweeping Strike. It's got a short cool down, crits on whatever unlucky darkspawn is your primary target, it's got as much range as Cone of Cold (in fact you set it up just like the Mage cone spells), and it knocks targets down. This power is gold.

I didn't use the second power much (can't recall the name). It gives you an enchantment (ENCHANTMENT!!) on your weapon called "Explosive hits". What this means is that when you auto attack your hit "explodes" and adds a small amount of AoE damage to all foes near you. Why it sucks... Well 2h style works best with you actively using your talents. Damage enhancements (Runes, Mage weapon enchants, +10 to dragons from Yusaris, etc....) do not fire off with active attacks. So if you spam attacks this sustained really doesn't do anything but drain stamina. I wasn't impressed with the damage either. It's not need with Onslaught...

OMG Onslaught!!!! This is my favorite ability in Awakenings next to Massacre! For the use Onslaught hits about 5 times in a rough 180 arc, and animates fairly quickly. The drawback of this attacks is that you have to aim it, and there is no indicator to let you know you lined it up. What you need to do is make sure that your character is facing precisely in the direction of where you want your bloodbath. You also need to back up 1 step to make sure you don't wildly swing with the first arc. Yes, this skill takes practice, but it's potential for carnage is ridiculous! I have caught targets in both the first step's up swing, and down swing. Then taken the second step only to catch the same targets in the up and down swing. I may miss with the final over head swing about 40% of the time. Usually what happens is I will let the baddies bunch up, and face a target in the back of where I want to go. Then launch Onslaught. I typically hit 3-4 targets about 4 times with a 2h weapon for roughly 180 dmg a pop, and I can get lucky with hitting my original target with the overhead swing once. The poor sods in my way to my target are usually dead after the second to third swing. You can get all the hits to connect on larger bosses if they don't knock you back. I took off massive amounts of health off of the fire golem boss with Onslaught. The beauty of Onslaught is in how much damage it can do in it's wide swinging arc. The final hit is pretty narrow, and has a high chance to miss (usually because a target has moved, and the ability does not track enemy movement).

Reaving storm is pretty hilarious to watch at least once, but I wasn't very impressed. You just don't need to drain that much stamina spazzing out doing AoE... unless you are soloing I guess. 2h Sweep, Sweeping Strike, and Onslaught are carnage machines in Awakenings. Throw in Massacre from the Warrior line, and you are a one man (or woman) wrecking crew.

4) Stamina regeneration is your friend! The Stormchaser gloves from Wade in Vigil's Keep are well worth the purchase! +4 Stamina regen on just gloves! Sign me up (they did)! I know some folks are fans of massive armor, but I happen to like heavy armor for my 2h warrior. The Sentinel armor, while powerful, comes with a steep fatigue penalty. I ran several sustained abilities, and Spirit Warrior will drain stamina quickly. I switched back to the Stormchaser gloves, Venture, and Fleet Feet and had little trouble running my sustains plus Spirit Warrior abilities. Stamina regen seems rare on non-tanky warrior gear.

Those are my tips. Have fun storming the castle!

I think Awakening finally makes the "auto attacking, not ability spamming" two-hander viable.

With the spirit warrior sustaining, +15% spirit damage from armor rune, the Sentinel set, Vigilant, and Intensify runes, a two handed warrior main character can deal 200 damages in a normal swing, and like 350 in critical hit (which happens around 35% the time). Add in haste and you get a powerful warrior who doesn't need micro-management like in Origins.

The stamina is an issue, but if you put second wind into tactic, it should be able to cover most fights.
