so, i bought jade empire last night from gamestop as a download. i download the file and when i run it to install, it says it needs to download another file. so, i go ahead to download the second file. the download basically hangs and an error comes up after a while saying the download failed. any ideas? does this have anything to do with bioware wiping out its store for the most part?

I hear there's someone suing gamestop because a used copy of DA:O didn't include the dlc, perhaps you should go class action.

well, it's not used, so i don't think i'd qualify. are there any current or former jade empire players who encountered a similar problem? or maybe someone from bioware can point me in the right direction?

Try searching Fileplanet of Filefront for the required download file you need. That is, if you know the name. If you don't, try downloading once more and take note of the name if possible.

Well, I've contacted Gamestop support and 2K Games support. Hopefully one of them can help me. I suspect it has to do with Bioware eliminating it's online store for the most part. All the NWN and Jade Empire stuff is just gone.You'd think it would go to EA, but I checked and EA has no downloadable Jade Empire. This has reinforced my beliefs about digital distribution. Now that I've experienced this, I will go with hard copies for everything except DLC.

Why? Jade Empire was *never* published by EA, only by 2K (in regards to the PC).

I don't think it's anything to do with BioWare, as my retail edition of Jade Empire installed fine ~2 months ago, so it sounds like a Gamestop issue.

yeah, you're right about the ea thing. i was thinking off the top of my head. it may very well be a gamestop issue. it just seems weird that a download would basically go to nowhere. i've encountered a few other people posting about it around the net but their posts usually have zero replies. it's just a little frustrating i guess. i bought the game and i want to play it. hopefully gamestop or 2k has the solution.

Use Steam for digital downloads.  Have you tried contacting Gamestop support?

yes, i did. i figured i'd cover all the bases i can in case i found someone who had encountered this before and solved it. who knows how fast gamestop will be. i contacted 2k as well.

you are so very right. from now on i will not buy downloads. there are too many variables. i avoided it before, but i figured i'd play jade empire while i wait for my awakening copy(long story). well, at least i have dao and torchlight while i figure this out.
