on april 6th there will be an update that allows 360 users to save their games on external harddrives and USB save support. so is it possible to be able to save or copy our save games onto the usb sources and then mod them with this gibbed thing? i would love to have modded stuff for the 360.

This intrigues me. I have all my ME stuff on my 360; the chance to transfer that data to a computer would save me a lot of time when my new computer finally arrives. This one likelys.

There will probably be a way to do it but I'm sure Microsoft will try to make it as hard as possible because modding saves kind of negates the whole achievement system.

Wait - forgive my slight n00bishness here:

Does this mean that I can play the same playthrough accross platforms (like, import 360 saves into PC, nd vice versa), or simply that I'll be able to get mods for the game into the 360?

(nobody throw rocks at the tech-n00b!) :)

This is what I'm afraid of, but if it's doable and legit, I'll give it a shot.

the 360 uses its own file system and will format the usb device with that file system. last i heard pc's couldn't read the 360 file system so modding wouldn't be possible.

if that's not the situation anymore and someone came up with software that can read a 360 hdd from a pc, i'd love to know and would appreciate a link.

Ahh I see how it works. It formats part of the drive in the 360 format. Essentially turning it into a memory card. I doubt the 360 formatted partition will be readable by a PC (of course that will probably be hacked at some point).

My guess would be that MS won't consider it legit, I'm not even sure BW considers it to be legit on the PC.  Being able to mod the game so easily is probably the #1 reason ME and ME2 are not games for windows.

The update is being delivered via XBox Live - sound pretty legit to me.

I was refering to modding of saved game files, not storing games on a USB device.

Microsoft's system can detect whether you used game saves to get Achievements for games you've never even played, so I'm sure their system can detect whether Achievements were unlocked via save editing.

The save files created for Xbox 360 are not the same for the PC version, so the Gibbed editor won't work for that. Since the USB drive will have to be formatted for the Xbox 360, it's unlikely you will be able to even open those files on your PC unless you use a modding program. Also, chances are if you do mod that save, you could get the perma-ban from XBL if they are able to detect it.

Right. You set up the usb drive, and it will format a 360 partition for saving on the drive. If the whole thing isn't converted, you'll have whatever space left for a PC usb drive.

That's all I want too. I wish the 360 users could get that ability. I don't care about editing the game so I can recruit people out of order or anything. My newly created Femshep though, is envious of the hairstyles the PC gamers can use.

There was a way to mod Fallout 3 on the 360. They posted it somewhere on the Fallout Wiki. It was done with a USB if my memory serves right. There was a few other steps involved, but it can be done.

HUGE EPIC facepalm sandwich.....like a trillion facepalms at once. You CAN mod the 360 saves of ME2 NOW and I have been for over a month now. And NO you can't take 360 saves to the PC version because they are still AWESOME EPIC awe inspiring xbox 360 saves.....these to not support bugs, glitches, crashes and incompatibilities and nightmares that are served for breakfast, launch and dinner in all PC games.

This.

As far as I know, BioWare allows the modding of save files. Seeing as many gamers only mod theirs because of the hair types and the eyes and stuff... Why not combine all those extra and harmless (i.e. not gameplay breaking) options in a single DLC-package and throw it on the Cerberus Network?

People have been modding Xbox 360 saves for quite a while. All it takes is a memory unit, the PC connection cable, and a hex editor. I had a friend mod my Xbox RE5 save to switch around gun models, give me thousands of rounds of ammo into a single slot, and add a couple of extra weapons and what not....it's pretty stimple.

People use these set-ups to import game hacks (i.e. Call of Duty). Microsoft does their best, but they can usually only catch online cheaters using modified saves, and gamerscore cheaters. As far as a save for a single-player game, I doubt there's much they can do, nor would they care much to do it.

Maybe now this means that people can mod their saves for infinite resources and different hairstyles.
